Solon High Named National Blue Ribbon School

SOLON, OH — Solon High School has been named a National Blue Ribbon School. Only 362 schools nationwide earned the prestigious title of Blue Ribbon School this year.

“This is great day for us as the entire country is hearing about the amazing students and staff we have here at Solon High School,” said Solon High Principal Erin Short. “Being selected as a Blue Ribbon School is an exceptional honor that underscores our commitment to excellence. We are stronger together is our motto for this year and this award is a clear reflection of that philosophy in action. Together, everyone in our school community – students, teachers, staff and families – does whatever it takes to make Solon High School one of the nation’s best each and every day.”

A ceremony honoring all the Blue Ribbon School recipients will be held in November. Short and Assistant Principal Erica Kosiorek will head to Washington, D.C. for the festivities. Solon High will also hold a celebration for students and staff.

Blue Ribbon recipients must be nominated by their state departments of education. Solon High staff engaged in a lengthy application process detailing the school's efforts to use data in instruction and to improve student achievement. Federal officials scrutinized educational practices and systems at the high school and success metrics, like standardized tests.

“We recognize and honor your important work in preparing students for successful careers and meaningful lives,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos in a video message to all Blue Ribbon Schools. “As a National Blue Ribbon School, your school demonstrates what is possible when committed educators hold all students and staff to high standards and create vibrant, innovative cultures of teaching and learning.”
