Solon High Nominated For National Blue Ribbon Award

The Ohio Department of Education has nominated Solon High School for the familiar and prestigious honor.

SOLON, OH — Solon High School has been nominated for the prestigious U.S. Department of Education National Blue Ribbon School Award. Only 14 Ohio public schools are nominated for the award this year.

“Our entire Solon High School team is thrilled to be nominated for the National Blue Ribbon School Award,” said Solon High Principal Erin Short. “Every day at Solon High School we concentrate on meeting the needs of our students. The results that led to this nomination underscore our student-centered focus.”

Every school in the Solon district has received the National Blue Ribbon School Award at least once. This is Solon High's third nomination. Schools must be selected by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) for the nomination.

The ODE called Solon High an "exemplary high performing school." Nominations were made based on high student achievement, as rated by the state's 2018 Ohio School Report Card metrics. Solon High ranked in the top tier of all Ohio schools in all assessments.

“Congratulations to our Solon High School students and staff whose hard work and achievement led to this significant recognition,” said Solon Schools’ Superintendent Joseph Regano.

The Blue Ribbon Schools Program "recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Every year the U. S. Department of Education seeks out and celebrates great American schools, schools demonstrating that all students can achieve to high levels," the U.S. Department of Education said on their website.

The U.S. Department of Education said it hopes recognition of Blue Ribbon schools leads to the dissemination of high-level success tactics for educators, families and students.
