Solon High School Wins Opening Round of Football Playoffs, Advances to Semifinals

The Comets will take on St. Ignatius Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m.

SOLON, OH - The number one ranked Solon Comets won the opening round of the 2016 OHSAA football playoffs on Friday, beating Canton GlenOak 39-10. The team will prepare for perennial contender and fourth ranked St. Ignatius. The Wildcats will battle Solon on Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m.

The two teams will meet at Mentor's Jerome T. Osborne Stadium, 8620 Munson Road. Solon is the home team by virtue of being the higher ranked squad.

The Comets have never won a state title and finished as runner-ups in 2000. Meanwhile, the Ignatius Wildcats are one of the most storied football programs in the entire state. The all-boys Catholic high school in Cleveland has won 11 state titles, most recently in 2011. Both teams sport incredible defenses, so expect a low scoring affair.
