Solon Named Best Ohio City For Families By Livability

SOLON, OH — Solon was named the best Ohio city for families by Livability, an online-publication focused on small- to medium-sized cities. The website said the city's award-winning schools gave it an edge over all other municipalities.

Two Cuyahoga County towns made Livability's list: Solon and Rocky River. The rest of the top five was composed of Perrysburg, Wyoming and Pickerington.

The author of the Livability article is Kristen Gough, a former Solon resident. She noted that Solon's schools are consistently among the best in the state by every metric. Nearly every publication has the Solon Schools at the top of its best Ohio public schools rankings, and for good reason.

For four straight years, Solon Schools have been the highest performing school district in Ohio on the annual state report cards. In September 2018, the district again earned straight "A's" in a variety of categories, including Achievement, Progress, Gap Closing, Graduation Rate and Preparation for Success.

"The top schools do come at a cost – median home prices here are $266,400," Gough writes in her piece.

Besides the incredible school system, how else did Solon break away from the pack? Here's Gough's answer,

"The community includes several family-friendly perks, such as a large recreation center, including an outdoor pool complex, and a thriving community arts scene thanks in part to the Solon Center for the Arts, which provides regular programs and performances for children. Add to that the fact that it's centrally located in northeast Ohio, providing easy access to nearby Cleveland or Akron, and you've got the formula for a perfect place to raise a family."
