Solon Police Chase Down Shoplifters from Marc's

A couple of shoplifters wheeled a cart full of merchandise out of the store without paying for it and then fled through the parking lot.

SOLON, OH - Police dealt with a a number of vandalism incidents and criminals trying to run a cart full of merchandise through a parking lot. Read on to find out more.

Vehicular Vandalism, US 422: A 29-year-old Bainbridge resident reported that someone threw something at her car on US 422 between Harper Road and SR 91. The object damaged her side passenger door. She obtained the registration from the vehicle and the description. Rodney Hunn, 31 of Auburn, was issued a misdemeanor citation for Vehicular Vandalism.

OVI, US 422: Officers stopped a car on US 422 at 2:56 a.m. on Jan. 20. When they approached the car the driver seemed intoxicated. Officers confirmed that with impairment with field sobriety tests. Christopher Fornadel, 37 of Bainbridge, was charged with OVI, Driving without a License, and Speed.

Theft, Marc’s: The manager and another employee of the Marc's, 6231 SOM Center Rd., confronted a male and female that attempted to leave the store with a cart full of merchandise they hadn't paid for. After being confronted in the parking lot and being asked multiple time to produce a receipt, the couple fled through the parking lot of the store toward Walgreens. Police officers grabbed both of them in the Walgreens parking lot. Darryl Caldwell, 63 and Kimberley Leius, 55, both of Solon, were charged with theft. The amount of merchandise taken from Marc’s was $254.93.

Criminal Damage, Various Locations: Several mailboxes were damaged on Rollingbrook Trail. Police discovered that the mailboxes had been destroyed with a baseball bat and the destruction had spread to Parkside Trail, Woodbury Drive, Springside Lane, and Cannon Road. The detective bureau is reviewing the incident.

OVI, US 422: On Jan. 21 at 12:48 a.m. officers arrested Annette Apicella, 65 of Bainbridge, after she was observed driving erratically on US 422 between the SR 91 and Bainbridge Township. The officers smelled alcoholic beverage when they approached the car, and Apicella’s eyes were bloodshot. Field sobriety tests indicated she had been drinking and she was arrested and taken to jail where she submitted to a breath test with a result of .083; she was charged with OVI, Prohibited BAC, and Improperly Handling a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle for a handgun located in the vehicle.

Violating a Temporary Protection Order, Solon Police Department: A woman's ex-boyfriend has been harassing her via text message. She reported the harassment to Solon Police and noted that the ex is violating a Temporary Protection Order that was issued by the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office. Marvin Brewer, 39 of Mayfield Heights, was charged with Violation of a Temporary Protection Order.

Theft, AIS Commercial: A manager for A.I.S. Commercial Parts & Services, 5265 Naiman Parkway, reported on Jan. 25 that someone had broken the window on their company van and removed a toolbox with tools valued at approximately $200. There are no suspects.
