Solon Police Launch New Blog To Better Communicate With Residents
The department said it hopes to offer genuine insight and meaningful content to residents.

SOLON, OH — The Solon Police Department has launched its own blog. In a post on Facebook, the department said it hopes the blog "will introduce sincere, meaningful and informative content from those who perform the job."
The first post to appear on the new site was authored by Lieutenant Bruce Felton and discusses the intricacies of community relations in an era of intense focus on police behavior. Felton specifically cites the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri saying now "it is hard to understand what, as police officers, we are supposed to be doing."
He goes on to say that on a near daily basis he sees articles and news clips about officers performing good deeds — dancing at birthday parties, shooting hoops on a cul-de-sac with some local kids. He said he loves seeing the "feel good" stories.

"But here is the proverbial rub; I can’t help but feel at times that the increased attention to these acts by officers feels staged. And that is unfortunate because police officers have always done these things."

On Facebook, in response to some questions about the nature of the blog, the department responded, saying, "Managed by our editor Ptl. Jason Bender, it is our intent to provide periodic articles about law enforcement from both a local and national perspective on a number of different topics, thereby initiating dialogue with the community."
