Solon Schools Named 2nd Best District In U.S.

SOLON, OH — The Solon City Schools are again being ranked among the best school districts in the nation. The local school system was ranked No. 2 in the country by Niche, but earned top marks for having the best teachers in the U.S.

The 2019 rankings released this month rank elementary, middle and high schools as well as school districts. Only the Jericho Union Free School District in New Jersey rated higher than Solon this year.

Here's how the Solon Schools ranked, according to Niche:

• Academics: A+
• Teachers: A+
• Clubs & Activities: A+
• Diversity: A-
• College Prep: A+
• Health & Safety: A+

In addition to the district earning top marks, Solon High School was rated as the best high school in the Cleveland-area. The district celebrated its success on Facebook, as seen below.

To arrive at these rankings, Niche looked at data from the U.S. Department of Education as well as test scores, college data and ratings collected from Niche users. (You can read more about the methodology here.)

Niche assigns a standardized score for each factor, which is then weighted before an overall score is calculated for each school district. The overall scores are again standardized and some districts are disqualified from receiving a final letter grade if there isn't enough data. School districts are then ranked numerically and assigned grades.
