When Maria Dubnicka’s position as an insurance underwriter was eliminated due to the recession, she wondered what to do next.
Dubnicka had witnessed first hand the challenges her own aging parents and in-laws faced in relation to health care services and maintaining the greatest degree of independence and dignity possible in their lifestyles. So she was drawn to ComForcare Senior Services, a provider of non-medical home care services throughout the United States, Canada and the UK.

Dubnicka purchased Solon's ComForcare franchise in September, which also serves the surrounding communities of Beachwood, Aurora, Macedonia, Chagrin Falls, Maple Heights and Mayfield Heights.
“With the first generation of Baby Boomers reaching 65 this year, I anticipate tremendous growth for ComForcare and related businesses over the next 20 years,” Dubnicka said.

Baby Boomers are generally defined as people born in the years 1946 to 1964. According to U.S. Census data, there are 77 million “boomers” about to enter their retirement years.
“Research shows that most older adults would choose to remain in their own homes as long as possible,” Dubnicka said. “Combined with the fact that many of these adults may have been hurt by the economic downturn, ComForcare provides a less-expensive, individualized alternative to an assisted living or long-term care facility.”
Dubnicka also attributes the success of ComForcare to the growth of the “sandwich” generation — those families that are falling under the stress of taking care of their own children as well as their aging parents. ComForcare can fill the gap when family members or friends are unable to safely care for loved ones at home and provide peace of mind for those families.
ComForcare’s services include assistance with personal care and hygiene, homemaking assistance, transportation, companionship and much more all in the comfort and safety of the client’s own home.
A trained professional, usually a registered nurse, schedules a visit to evaluate the client’s individual needs, whether it is temporary assistance or long-term care; physicians and family members are consulted about the assessment. The company can also provide 24-hour, live-in care.
Dubnicka is no stranger to hard work and the pursuit of the “American Dream.” She is a first-generation American and the first in her family to attend college, which she did at John Carroll University. Her parents came to the United States from Croatia when she was an infant and encouraged her entrepreneurial spirit.
She predicts continued success and growth for her company and looks forward to making a positive contribution in the community.
