State Representative Marlene Anielski is encouraging middle and high school students to participate in two upcoming free STEM educational opportunities.
Cuyahoga Valley Career Center is hosting a STEM Career Showcase on Saturday, February 8th. The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and is open to all students in grades 7-12 and their parents.Β Participants will learn why companies seek STEM knowledge and skills, hear from young professionals in the field, and participate in hands-on activities.
"Most careers in STEM fields require a college degree, and rigorous coursework in high school is required for collegiate success in STEM majors.Β It is especially important for students to learn about STEM careers while still in middle or high school, so they can have a sense of what career would be a good fit for them and plan accordingly,β said CVCC Superintendent Celena Roebuck. βParticipants will gain a realistic perspective and can begin planning their education career path with Cuyahoga Valley Career Center."

The Ohio Board of Regents and The Ohio Academy of Science are hosting a new program where Ohioβs high school students will compete for more than $1.6 million in awards and scholarships from a STEM Commercialization and Entrepreneurship Program. The program, titled βBelieve in Ohio- Spring 2013 Northeast Ohio STEM Commercialization & Entrepreneurship Forum,β will be held on February 22nd at Hudson High School. The Forum begins at 9:30 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. and is open to students in grades 8-12 with a potential interest in a career in science, technology, engineering, math, or medicine.
βThe innovation economy of the future will require todayβs students to develop an entrepreneurial and innovation mindset to create the new products and services of the future. Otherwise Ohioβs economic development will stagnate and our best and brightest minds will continue their exodus from Ohio,β said John Klipfel, Executive Director, Entrepreneurial Engagement Ohio. Β
