Suspected Drunken Driver Speeds, Swerves In Solon

Police said the man activated both his left and right turn signals in rapid fashion before making a quick turn.

SOLON, OH — An accused drunk driver was taken into police custody after he was spotted speeding and swerving across the road, police said.

Solon police spotted a car on Bainbridge Road driving 49 mph in a 35 mph zone, according to police radar. Officers attempted to catch up to the vehicle and said they saw it swerving across double yellow lines on the road.

As the car and the pursuing police approached Liberty Road, the suspected drunken driver put on his right turn signal, quickly switched it to a left turn signal, and then made a southbound turn on Liberty. That's when police stopped the car.

While talking to the driver, a 62-year-old man from Chagrin Falls, police could smell alcohol undulating from the interior of the vehicle. The man said he was going to Hudson. It was a little after 8 p.m. in the evening.

When asked why he had been playing with his turn signals, police said the driver responded: "because I, I was, I’m, I’m fine."

The driver admitted to having "one beer," police said. Officers decided to put the man through a series of field sobriety tests, which police said indicated the man was impaired. The man was then arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and taken to the Solon Correction Center.

A breath test was performed at the Solon Correction Center. The man blew a .138. Officers also found an open container of alcohol in the man's car.
