Teen Arrested For Fighting With Police At Solon Library

Police said a 15-year-old argued with library staff, tipped over a decorative tree, refused to leave, and then punched and kicked officers.

SOLON, OH — A teenage girl was taken into custody after she punched and kicked two police officers, Solon Police said. The girl had reportedly tipped over a decorative tree and made a ruckus at Solon Library.

The incident happened last Monday, at about 4:30 p.m. Police were called to the library because a 15-year-old was reportedly causing issues with the staff. When officers arrived, they found a group of juveniles leaving, including the teenager. The suspect had reportedly tipped over book displays and a decorative tree before she walked out.

The juveniles were uncooperative, police said. Officers couldn't get the teenager who tipped the tree over to identify herself. When police figured out who the suspect was, she was told she would be taken to Solon Police Station, where she could contact her parents.

The girl pulled out a cell phone and left a voicemail for her mother. She then told police she didn't know her father's phone number. The girl was then told she was being taken to the station.

The 15-year-old refused to go and sat down near the curb.

When police tried to pick her up, she allegedly began swinging at them. She kicked one officer in the groin and then punched him in the face, according to a police report obtained by Patch.

Another officer then took the girl down, using an arm bar technique. When the teen went to the ground, the officer lost control of her and she began punching, kicking and scratching the two officers again, records indicate.

Police finally got control of the teenager and handcuffed her. A group of juveniles then formed near the police and began yelling at them. Additional officers were called to the scene to assist with calming the situation, police reports said.

The teenager was eventually identified, by name, using her Solon Schools ID. The girl was taken to Solon Police Department and was charged with two counts of assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.

The girl's mother came to the police department and was told about the incident. She was informed of the charges against her daughter.

The teenager was later transferred to the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center.
