Teenager Drifts Out Of Lane, Arrested For Drunk Driving In Solon

Police are looking to crack down on impaired drivers over the holiday weekend. They even snagged an 18-year-old on SR 43 recently.

SOLON, OH — An 18-year-old was arrested for driving impaired on SR 43. The teenager was allegedly seen swerving around lanes before drifting out of his lane entirely.

Police stopped the 18-year-old's car at about 10:50 p.m. The officer that stopped him allegedly saw signs of impairment during the field sobriety tests. The teenager was arrested and taken to Solon Jail, where he took a breath test.

He blew a .001. A urine sample was also taken and was sent to the Ohio State Highway Patrol lab for analysis, police said.

The teenager is being charged with operating a vehicle impaired, weaving and marked lanes.

Solon Police are planning a crackdown on drunk or impaired driving over Memorial Day weekend. First, on Friday night, police will hold a drunk driving checkpoint. The checkpoint will be setup in the vicinity of Aurora Road on May 25. Police said the operation would be conducted in the business district.

The police department will also be looking to crack down on drunk, or otherwise impaired, drivers during the holiday weekend. "We want the public to know that we will be out there for the benefit of the motoring public and pedestrians, working to make our roadways safe," explains Ptl. Roy Cunningham.

There were 11,928 alcohol-related crashes on Ohio roadways last year. Those crashes led to 314 fatalities and 6,866 injuries.
