Thieves Hack, Steal Credit Card Accounts In Solon: Police

Someone masqueraded as a Solon resident, called her bank and told them not to flag future transactions, and then spent $700.

SOLON, OH — Two Solon residents had their credit card accounts hacked this month. Police are investigating fraudulent use of the cards at Marc's and Key Bank.

The credit card thefts happened on the same day, Feb. 7. The first incident was reported at 10:34 a.m. when a 64-year-old man was alerted by his bank to a strange transaction. The bank wondered if he was using his card, at that moment, at the SOM Center Road Marc's. The man told his bank he was at home.

The man's credit card account was used in a $115.10 purchase. The grocery store has video of the suspect that made use of the man's card, police said. Detectives are following up on the case.

The bank told her that someone had already called about the account, masquerading as the Solon woman. The suspect was able to answer a series of security questions and then told the bank not to flag future transactions as fraudulent.

The Solon woman said she still had her credit cards in her possession.

Solon police have delivered a subpoena to Key Bank for footage of the suspect's transaction. Detectives are following up on the case.
