TV Show 'History Detectives' Investigate Solon Man's Historic Pike

Did a Solon man's antique weapon have a role in John Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry?

The PBS Show History DetectivesΒ will take on the mystery of a pike owned by Whewell. The weapon may have been used in John Brown's 1859 slave revolt and raid on the federal armory in Harper's Ferry. The show will research the pike and see if it's authentic.

Whewell bought the pike -- basically a long spear-like weapon -- at an antique store in Chagrin Falls after he saw a name on it and wondered about its significance.Β
