Two 60-Year-Olds Charged With Shoplifting Deli Meats In Solon

Plus, an irate customer steals a cell phone company employee's phone and then tries to sell it back to them.

SOLON, OH — Police dealt with a pair of unusual thefts during the waning days of February. In both instances the suspects were caught and the items that had been taken were returned.

The first incident took place Feb. 22 at the Verizon Wireless store at 6440 SOM Center Road. An unhappy customer came into the business and snatched a sales associate's cell phone.

The suspect later called the 27-year-old associate and asked her how much she would be willing to pay to get her phone back. Luckily, police were able to identify the suspect and arrest him. A 59-year-old Bainbridge man has been charged with theft and the cell phone was returned to the sales associate.

Five days later, on Feb. 27, two people in their 60s were arrested for shoplifting from Miles Farmer's Market, 28650 Miles Road. A 69-year-old man from Aurora and a 62-year-old woman from Aurora have both been charged with theft in the incident.

Employees at the grocer saw the pair acting strangely. When the two 60-year-olds left the store without any of the items they had been seen with, the staffers got more suspicious. Police were called.

Officers found deli items inside the woman's purse and more items under the man's shirt. The pair were found with more than $49 of merchandise.
