VIDEO: Solon Students Say 'Buckle Up' Using Balloons

Solon students release balloons with the message 'buckle up for a kid that loves you' to kick off the Click It or Ticket campaign

To launch the Click It or Ticket campaign, students at and St. Rita's School participated Tuesday in a balloon release.

These weren't ordinary balloons: They contained the message "Buckle up for a kid that loves you" so that the person who finds the balloon can be reminded to wear a seat belt in the car, said Chrystal Gullett, Safe Communities Coordinator for Cuyahoga County.

Solon Police officers were on hand to release the balloons with the students. The goal is to influence students to wear their seat belt so that the good habit rubs off on their parents.

Gullett said Cuyahoga County has one of the lowest rates of seat belt use in the country, and the goal is to get kids to influence their parents' choices.

"We talk about little kids buckling up all the time, but we want to make sure their parents and caregivers are just as safe as they are," Gullett said. "We are trying to do anything we can to get adults to buckle up in their cars."
