PAWSIBILITIES® Humane Society of Greater Akron Wins 3 Month Cruelty Investigation

(Twinsburg, OH)- On December 5, 2012, PAWSibilites®, Humane Society of Greater Akron executed a search warrant on a residential property in Akron.  A total of twelve pitbull- mixed dogs were seized, along with a slate treadmill, syringes, bite sticks and other home remedy medical supplies.  A cruelty case that persisted over three months came to an end on March 14, 2013. The offender pled guilty to four misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty, restitution of $1,500, the individual had to surrender the dogs to PAWSibilities®, Humane Society of Greater Akron and cannot own another dog for five years.

All twelve dogs, including six adults and six puppies have been medically evaluated, treated and behaviorally assessed by the organization’s animal care staff.  Behavior assessments are performed on all dogs over the age of six months and gauge the dog’s reaction to new stimulus, other dogs, handling and food.  The dogs are currently available for adoption and will remain under the care of PAWSibilities®, Humane Society of Greater Akron until they are adopted into their forever homes.

Under the Ohio Revised Code, PAWSibilities®, Humane Society of Greater Akron’s role is to rescue and rehabilitate the severely sick, injured, abandoned, abused and neglected animals in Summit County. The organization has two deputized Humane Officers that investigate cruelty situations and seize animals when necessary. “The dogs were tied in the basement and backyard in poor conditions.  They were malnourished, most lacked food and water, and some were injured and scared.” commented Tim Harland, Senior Humane Officer.
