Bulldogs’ McMahon Finishes Second At District
145-pound junior advances to state championships.

Junior Connor McMahon’s steller season will last one more week as the 145-pound grappler will advance to the OHSAA State Wrestling Tournament on March 3-5 at the Jerome Schottenstein Center on the campus of The Ohio State University.
McMahon was one of four wrestlers to advance to the Division I District held at Mentor High School this past weekend.In addition to McMahon, Bulldog wrestlers at Mentor included sophomore Dylan Hartwig (112 pounds), senior Trey Lohr (119), and junior Dan Garner (215).
McMahon (31-2 record entering District) opened with a pin of Akron Ellet senior Adam Hayhurst (26-16) at 3:41. In his next match, McMahon stopped Riverside sophomore Jake Denman (20-9) via decision, 7-1. In the semifinals, McMahon topped Perry’s Tanner Lemon via decision, 9-2, to advance to the first-place match against Brush senior Devon Range (34-2). Range beat McMahon, 4-2.

Other Bulldog wrestlers that coach Randy Jenkins fielded at District did not experience great success.
Hartwig (29-7) opened with a 12-5 loss via decision to sophomore Sonny Shump of Barberton. In his next bout, Hartwig shutout North Royalton freshman Alec Benedetti, 5-0, but ended his day losing to Howland junior J.R. Perry (29-2) by maj. decision, 12-3.

Lohr (16-13) and Garner (20-12) each lost their matches.
North Royalton senior Mike Yurkovich (33-7) pinned Lohr at 5:26. In his second bout, Lake’s Sam Rhoades (21-7) edged Lohr, 5-3, in a hard-fought match.
Stow’s Garner lost his opening 215-pound match to Brush senior Randall Howard (28-3), 9-4. His day ended via pin against Josue Corales (24-12). The Rhodes sophomore stopped Garner at 4:26.
