Farmer's Market Growing Healthier Community

The market may have started off as something small, but it has gained more and more vendors every week.

It's like a small seed.

If you take care of it and give the seed what it needs, it will grow into something magnificent. That's what coordinators Gary Aleman and Mike Osman have witnessed halfway through the first year of Stow's Farmers Market.

The duo in charge of the market said just like the flowers being sold by vendors, the market is blossoming into something beautiful for the community.

Council to have the market at the  this summer.

"We’re glad we did it. We’ve come a long way," said Aleman. "We brought goods and services and produce to people that a lot fresher than they’ve ever experienced before. It's an educational experience not only for us, but for the customers."

Not only is it exciting that the amount of vendors has more than doubled since the first week (where there were three), but there are musical acts and a tent set up for health and wellness businesses.

"Thing that really excited us, people come and have money and they want to spend money," he said. "We're excited for what the event does and what it means to them ... it provides good health and good wellness in Stow."

As the event has grown throughout the summer, so have the crowds of people.

"People are coming to hang out in the mornings, it really has become a social gathering spot," said Osman, adding they provide free coffee in the morning.

The market is open from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday through Sept. 18 in the parking lot at the west side of the church, right off of Pilgrim Drive. Osman said that depending on the growing season and if council allows the market to be extended, it might continue after Aug. 18.

Vendors include, but are not limited to, Great Harvest Bread Co., a kettle corn vendor, Crooked River Grill, soap, flower and crochet vendors and Bittnerbees from Kirtland.

A tent is also set up for organizations and businesses promoting health and wellness. Still scheduled to come to the market is the , the and .
