Google Directs Woman to Stow Repair Store Scam

The following information was supplied by the Stow Police Department.

A Stow resident said she Googled β€œappliance repair in Stow, Ohio” and found contact information for a local store at the 3200 block of Kent Road.Β 

The woman called and made a repair appointment. She told she had to give a $50 deposit before someone came to service her appliance. Over the phone, the woman gave the company her credit card information.Β 

Later, she told officers she got a call from an unknown number advising her that the credit card information they had was incorrect. She then gave her credit card information over the phone again, said police.Β

According to the report, the woman "though twice after she hung up" and then called police.Β 

Police said they suspect a fake business was set up as a scam to receive credit card numbers.Β

Identify fraud is a fifth-degree felony in this situation.
