High School Busing Returns Nov. 14 After Levy Approved

After a year without transportation for students, the wheels on the bus are going round and round again beginning today. 

After , a 6.57-mill 10-year operating levy, was , as promised, the district brought back busing for its high school students. 

The levy will generate $6.5 million every year and cost the owner of a $100,000 home, about $210 annually. 

As of Friday, Transportation Supervisor John Daymon said the district buses 4,034 students, 400 of which are now at the high school.

He said he expects that number to grow. 

There are 181 cluster stops, but locations of theses are not being shared with the public because of safety and privacy concerns. The district has communicated with students and parents who have signed up for transportation.

With cluster stops in place, the district reduced the number of buses from 28 to nine.

If the levy hadn't passed, the district would not have brought high school busing back, it would have in the form of doubling pay-to-particpate fees, eliminating field trips and closing school buildings after class and on weekends. Those cuts will not happen.
