How Stow's Firefighters Spend Their Time at Work

Some misinformation may be circulating about the number of calls and the amount of work the is doing in the last 10 years.

Fire Chief Bill Kalbaugh presented the department's facts and figures after Councilmember Joe Hickin was quoted in the Akron Beacon Journal saying, "We’ve only had three fires in the last decade, and we’re overstaffed in the fire department.”

So here's the facts, courtesy of the chief, from the last decade: (Nov. 1, 2001 through Oct. 31, 2011)

• Calls dispatched: 33,780
• EMS runs: 25,332
• Fire runs: 8,448
• Actual fires: 887
• Employees: 53 sworn firefighter/paramedics ()
