Hydrant Flushing Starts Nov. 6 In Stow

Residents should expect the flushing program to last six or seven weeks.

STOW, OH — Residents in Stow will notice crews flushing fire hydrants starting Nov. 6. The city's annual flushing program will last about seven weeks and should wrap up by Dec. 22, 2017. All activities will be weather dependent.

Flushing will start in the southeast portion of the city and then head along Fishcreek Road and other areas to the east. Crews will then work the center, north and south section of the city. The west side of Stow will be the final quadrant to have its hydrants flushed.

All flushing will be done in the daytime, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Signs will be posted in work areas, the city said on its website.

Residents shouldn't be shocked if they spot discolored water during flushing in their area of the city. If discolored water is spotted, residents should run their cold water from taps for several minutes until the water clears up.

If water doesn't clear up, wait about two hours and then repeat the process. As water lines return to normal post-flushing, the discoloration should clear up.
