Local Artist Paints Rain Barrel for Auction

The City of Stow is participating in a Rain Barrel Auction sponsored by the Summit Soil & Water Conservation District (District).  Through a grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, the District is assisting communities in educating and involving residents in an activity that promotes water quality and stormwater management.  Early this spring, the City of Stow received a rain barrel from the District. Local artist, Gary Fetters, volunteered his time to paint the barrel and the result is a delightfully comic depiction of animals in nature and how rain affects their every-day life in our communities.  You can see Mr. Fetters comics online at www.baxtercomics.com. The barrel will be displayed until Sept. 3, 2013 inside the lobby of Stow City Hall. If you are interesting in bidding on the barrel, a bid form is available on the City of Stow's website or at City Hall.  Bids are due to Public Service Dept. at City Hall by 4:00 p.m., Friday, August 30, 2013. Funds received from this project will be submitted to the District for the purchase of new rain barrels for 2014.  The City of Stow would like to thank Mr. Fetters for volunteering his talent and time toward this project and hope all residents will enjoy and learn from this valuable stormwater message and maybe glean a rain barrel in the process!  Contact Sue Mottl at (330) 689-5121.
