Stow author shares inspiring story battling cancer in new book

STOW, Ohio — In her new memoir, “That Girl with Cancer,” author Brianne Dishong shares her inspiring journey in battling cancer.

Dishong grew up battling it out on a court or a field; she had no
idea my next battle would be for my life. At 22 years old, most people
are burdened by the stress of finding jobs and being thrown out into the
real world. She was trying to get started in a master’s program while
coaching a sport she loves, until the day her doctor said the word
“cancer.”

“That Girl with Cancer” is the story of Dishong’s battle in the form
of blogs that were created when she was diagnosed. All survivors have
stories of hope and strength; her way of sharing her story was with a
little bit of humor while finding a new outlook on life in a difficult
time. “That Girl with Cancer” was written to inspire anyone struggling
through the hardships of life and to show all those facing some kind of
challenge that there will always be someone rooting for them.

Dishong is a 25-year-old cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with
stage 2B Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in November 2011. She graduated with a
bachelor’s and master’s degree from the Slippery Rock University of
Pennsylvania, where she competed on the varsity lacrosse team. She has
made a summer home at an all-girl camp in Pennsylvania that gave her the
strength to take on her battle as quickly as possible. She has been in
full remission since February 2013 and now hopes to spread her story of
survival in support of all of those facing life’s challenges.
