Marijuana Growing 'In Plain Sight' on Graham Road Seized

A Graham Road resident growing marijuana plants “in plain sight and visible from the road” has lost possession of the illegal herb to the Stow Police Department.

Police received a report at 12:54 p.m. Sept. 13 that a resident of the 2800 block of Graham Road was growing marijuana in the back yard.

A patrolman and two detectives responded and confirmed the presence of the plants.

Lt. Anne Stirm said 10 plants were found on the property in various stages of maturity. 

“Some plants were growing in the ground or (in) pots outside and others were in a grow room in a bedroom closet. Outdoor plants were in plain sight and visible from the road,” she explained.

Stirm said determining the value of the seized plants is difficult due to the various stages of growth. A rule of thumb, though, is that a typical mature marijuana plant yields about $1,000 worth of illegal sales.

Additional items seized from the Graham Road home include marijuana, drug paraphernalia, assorted pharmaceuticals, grow lights and literature.

Stirm said no charges had been filed as of Wednesday. The police report noted that cultivating marijuana and possession of drugs are both fifth-degree felonies.
