Paving Projects Happening at Stow Schools this Summer

The project will go out to bid June 20 and the Stow-Munroe Falls Board of Education is expected to approve the project during its next meeting in July.

There is 1 million-square-feet of paving at all of the schools and some repairs will be made when the School Board approves the project next month.

"It's better than last year’s conditions," said School Board President Pat Matthews afterΒ Jake Bush of Braun & Steidl gave a presentation during the.

Catherine Bulgrin, the disrict's treasurer/CFO, said the project will go out to bid June 20 and if approved during the June 27 special meeting, will be paid for with permanent improvement funds, not operating dollars.

Bush listed the improvements being made at the schools:

  • has a standing water issue that will be fixed with paving.Β 
  • will have seal and striping work and some paving work around the catch basin.
  • will have seal and striping work and some pot holes will be fixed near the playground area.
  • will get seal and striping work and the company is investigating some possible improvements to the back part of the parking lot.
  • will get seal and striping work.
  • has no major work planned, but the sealing and striping will be monitored this summer. There is also some original pavement on the back left side of the parking lot that will also be monitored.
  • and will have big traffic pattern changes. Striping will be redone and drivers will now enter the school, turn right and go around the building. "It will create a smoother trafficΒ flow," he said. "There won't be any overlapping of traffic patterns where the crossing gates are." Previously, drivers would come in and turn left and go around the building. Sidewalk improvements will also be made at those two buildings.
  • Β The will have the biggest scope of work this summer, Bush said. "The remainder of the loop in front of the high school will be completed," he said. Additional work will be done between the front and back parking lot as well.Β 
  • The bus garage is the worst area in the district, according to Bush. The road by the garage (behind the high school) has pot holes that will be fixed. "It will be in good shape for next year, it's very basic maintenance," he said.
