Purina Issues Pet Food Recall — Animals Could Die if Food Ingested Over Long Period of Time

Due to potentially elevated vitamin D levels, Land O’Lakes Purina Feed issued a voluntary recall on some of its pet food this past Friday.

Elevated vitamin D levels may cause death to animals and fish if ingested for extended periods of time. Other side effects include: lack of interest in eating, weight loss and possible joint stiffness, according to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration press release.

Although no customer complaints have been received, the following products are being recalled as a precaution: 

• WellSolve W/C (Item #: 0066925)
• WellSolve W/G (Item #: 0046451)
• Game Fish Chow (Item #: 0001363)
• Catfish 32 (Item #: 0040967)
• Catfish Chow (Item #: 0007136)
• Minnow Chow (Item #: 0006569)

The pet food was distributed nationwide starting April 2, 2012 through May 8, 2012.
