School Board Approves $205,000 Summer Paving Project
The price accepted came "significantly" under bid.

According to District Treasurer/CFO Catherine Bulgrin, the Tallmadge Asphalt Paving Co. offered the lowest price of $205,465.

"The entire project came significantly under bid," said Bulgrin.
She said the there was a $20,000 difference between the second lowest bidder and Tallmadge Asphalt and a $90,000 difference between the third lowest bidder and Tallmadge Asphalt.

"We're thrilled we received such competitive bids," she said.
The money will come out of the district's permanent improvement funds.
Jake Bush ofΒ Braun & SteidlΒ listed the improvements being made at the schools:
- Β has a standing water issue that will be fixed with paving.Β
- Β will have seal and striping work and some paving work around the catch basin.
- Β will have seal and striping work and some pot holes will be fixed near the playground area.
- Β will get seal and striping work and the company is investigating some possible improvements to the back part of the parking lot.
- Β will get seal and striping work.
- Β has no major work planned, but the sealing and striping will be monitored this summer. There is also some original pavement on the back left side of the parking lot that will also be monitored.
- Β andΒ Β will have big traffic pattern changes. Striping will be redone and drivers will now enter the school, turn right and go around the building. "It will create a smoother trafficΒ flow," he said. "There won't be any overlapping of traffic patterns where the crossing gates are." Previously, drivers would come in and turn left and go around the building. Sidewalk improvements will also be made at those two buildings.
- Β TheΒ will have the biggest scope of work this summer, Bush said. "The remainder of the loop in front of the high school will be completed," he said. Additional work will be done between the front and back parking lot as well.Β
- The bus garage is the worst area in the district, according to Bush. The road by the garage (behind the high school) has pot holes that will be fixed. "It will be in good shape for next year, it's very basic maintenance," he said.
