Squirrel To Blame For Power Outage in Stow

A squirrel is to blame for a power outage that created a loss of electric service for about 2,500 Ohio Edison customers this morning in Stow.

Ohio Edison spokesman Mark Durbin said the outage was caused by a squirrel that got into a substation located on Graham Road near the intersection of Darrow Road at 7:58 this morning

The utility company was able to restore service for 1,000 Stow customers by 8:30 a.m. The remainder of the customers had service restored by 9:11 a.m. – the exact time when Stow Police issued a news release about widespread outages.

“We knew immediately there was a problem, jumped on it and made a quick repair,” Durbin said.

A spokesperson in Mayor Sara Drew’s office confirmed that all traffic signals in the city are again working properly.
