Trees Tapped, Guns Stolen and Officers Respond to Incidents at School

A sampling of police items for March 15-22.

On March 15, aΒ Β student reported to a school therapist that a student had a knife at school. Police came to the school and arrested a 15-year-old and charged him with illegal possession of a deadly weapon (a black fold-up knife) in a school safety zone, a fifth-degree felony.

In other police news:

  • Also at the high school, the principal reported toΒ Β March 18 that two male youths were fighting and one teen was β€œpunched in the face several times.” According to the report, the fight was being facilitated by a third juvenile male student. One student, 14, was charged with disorderly conduct, a fourth-degree misdemeanor and the other student, 15, was charged with assault, a first-degree misdemeanor.
  • A Leewood Road resident reported to police March 22 that his home was broken into and about $3,200 worth of items were taken around 11 a.m. Items taken were aΒ .44 Magnum Smith & Wesson handgun, valued at $800, aΒ .38 Special Smith & Wesson handgunΒ valued at $600, a 46-inch flatscreen television valued at $800 and a jar of quarters valued at $1,000. The victim told police that a back window in his kitchen was forced open and his front door was open when he came back home. Burglary is a second-degree felony.
  • The city’s landscape arborist reported to police March 22 that trees at theΒ Stow CemeteryΒ were illegally tapped. She told police at this time she does not know whether the trees are permanently damaged or not. Destruction of trees and shrubs in Stow is a fourth-degree misdemeanor.
