Video: Stow Council Cuts Its Salary by 10 Percent
City Council passed legislation cutting pay for council and the mayor next year.
Stow City Council voted to cut its own salary next year by $1,650 (10 percent) in a 5-2 vote during the April 14 meeting at .
Council President Janet D'Antonio and Councilor Jim Costello cast the two "no" votes.
Council also passed legislation 4-3 which cuts the mayor's salary next year to $81,193 a year from $90,215 annually. Councilors Costello, D'Antonio and Mike Rasor voted "no."

Both pieces of passed legislation were proposed by Council Vice President Sara Drew.
Rasor proposed a 40 percent pay cut for council's salary, which would have reduce the salary to $10,000, but it was voted down.

Right now, council makes $16,600 annually with the president of council making an additional $1,000.
Resident and former Councilor Bob Adaska has started an initiative to get a charter amendment on the November ballot which would reduce council's annual pay to $700 a month ($8,400 annually), if passed.
Drew said council asked Law Director Brian Reali to "prepare legislation for council to authorize an outside law firm to give a legal opinion for a discrepancy with Stow's Charter and a Supreme Court ruling indicating the number of qualified electors to put an initiative on the ballot."
Right now, Adaska said he has about 700 signatures. "We're about halfway there," he said.
