Wyoga Palooza: Bands, Food and Community Fun

The Stow neighborhood festival raises funds for Wyoga Lake Park.

Stow residents of all ages are invited to enjoy a variety of bands, food, games and fun at the second annual Wyoga Palooza festival, set for Aug. 13 at Wyoga Lake Park in Stow from 4 to 11 p.m.

The festival is a fundraiser for Wyoga Lake Park, 580 Wyoga Lake Blvd., said Ron Spuhler, president of the homeowners association.

“Wyoga Palooza is a music and food festival that helps us maintain our neighborhood lake and wildlife preserves,” said Spuhler. “Our neighborhood was built in the 1960s around the Wyoga Lake recreation and wildlife areas. Volunteers in our neighborhood take care of these areas with their own equipment and money. No one is forced to join the homeowners association, so we created this fundraiser to help pay for the maintenance of our 90-acre lake, 5-acre park and 10-acres of wildlife.”

For a five dollar donation per person, participants will be treated to four local bands throughout the evening, food and beverages for purchase, swimming and canoeing in the lake, kid activities, cornhole and more. Children five and younger are free. The event will go on rain or shine.

Spuhler hopes the festival will draw at least 300 people and raise more than $2,000 for new equipment and maintenance of the recreation area and lake. The event is open to everyone, not just Wyoga Lake neighborhood residents.

“I hope people will come out and see that this festival is a good example of a community coming together with a common focus of achieving a task,” said Spuhler. “Wyoga Palooza is a good representation of what we do. Not only to maintain property, but to have fun and enjoy each other as a community should. We all join in and work together for our lake, park and recreation area.”

Wyoga Lake Park is a private park, and membership is required throughout the course of the year. Wyoga Palooza is the only day that Wyoga Lake Park is open to the public.
