$1.75 Million Stolen From Brunswick Church

Hackers deceived church officials at St. Ambrose and stole nearly $2 million from the parish.

BRUNSWICK, OH — About $1.75 million was stolen from St. Ambrose Parish in Brusnwick over the Easter holiday.

The parish learned of the theft when its monthly payment to a construction company did not arrive. The construction company reached out, wondering where its payment was, and church officials then discovered hackers had stolen $1.75 million from the parish.

According to Fox 8, church officials were deceived into think the contract construction company had changed its bank and wiring instructions. The money for the construction was then wired to a bank account and drained.

The FBI is now investigating the theft, according to News 5. An FBI spokesperson did not immediately respond to Patch's request for comment on the investigation.
