$10,000 Donation Made To Strongsville Schools

Local Staples stores took part in a national competition, won, and picked Strongsville Schools to receive part of the prize.

STRONGSVILLE, OH — During the summer of 2017, Intel held a national competition for stores selling electronics. The sales agents for those stores were asked to make themselves as knowledgeable as possible on Intel technology. The winning stores picked a local school to receive a donation from Intel.

Luckily for the Strongsville City Schools, the local Staples branches finished second in the competition. That meant the local schools were getting a $10,000 prize.

“Staples is proud to support Strongsville City Schools along with students, teachers, staffs, and the overallStrongsville community. We would like to also specially thank Intel for sponsoring this contest andproviding the opportunity to donate meaningful dollars to our local school district. Staples looks forwardto continuing to find ways to partner with Strongsville City Schools,” said Jere Walker, Strongsville Staples Store manager in a statement.

The prize money comes during a dire week in the community of Strongsville. With the announcement of the funds, the district took a chance to celebrate its upcoming Makerspaces, will include project-based learning labs, innovative spaces, and areas focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM), and tout some good news.

“We sincerely appreciate Strongsville Staples and Intel for this generous donation to Strongsville City
Schools. This money will support the expansion of our elementary Makerspaces, as well as provide funds
to support innovative practices throughout the District. Again, our thanks to Staples and Intel for
recognizing the impact they can have on our District through this monetary donation,” said Cameron Ryba,
Strongsville City Schools superintendent.

The Strongsville Schools received a $20,000 grant supporting Makerspaces in April 2017 from the from the GDP Groups Employees' Foundation. The GDP Group Employees' Foundation awarded more than $500,000 in grants in April, including the grant to Strongsville Schools. The Foundation says they received more than 180 applications for grants before January 13, 2017. Organizations in Northeast and Central Ohio, Atlanta, Dallas, Indianapolis, Louisville, Phoenix, and Seattle all received grants.
