4 Strongsville High School Wrestlers Advance To District Meet

Mustangs finish sixth at Medina Sectional

Four wrestlers from Strongsville High School will compete in the District Tournament next weekend at Lorain High School.

Arshak Asriyan, Kevin Scholtz, Jake Demio and Jacob Slimak all advanced by being among the top four qualifiers in their respective weight classes Saturday in the Sectional Tournament at Medina High School.

Strongsville placed sixth with 111 points in the 12-team field. Defending state champion Wadsworth led with 281. followed by Southwestern Conference champion Brecksville-Broadview Heights with 222.

Scholtz at 125 pounds and Asriyan at 215 both lost their title matches to Wadsworth wrestlers.

Scholtz fell to Kagan Squire on a 13-5 major decision. It was the closest any wrestler got all weekend to Squire, who has a 43-2 season record after two easy pins and a 17-4 major decision got him into the title match against Scholtz, who fell to 25-12.

Asriyan's season record fell to 21-11 when he was pinned by Nick Tavanello in 1:05 in his title quest.

Jake Demio made quick work of upstart freshman Grayson Davis of Brecksville-Broadview Heights, earning a pin in just 17 seconds at 112 pounds. Demio, a sophomore, improved to 14-8 for the season.

At 171 pounds, Jacob Slimak was pinned in 1:39 by Tyler Eastman of Cuyahoga Falls. The Strongsville senior will take a 12-11 record into next week's District meet.
