510 Pounds Of Weed Found In Truck Near Strongsville

The Ohio State Highway Patrol stopped a truck on the turnpike on Monday. They found nearly $1.3 million of marijuana inside the vehicle.

STRONGSVILLE, OH — Nearly quarter-ton of marijuana, valued at $1.3 million, was found during a traffic stop on the Ohio Turnpike on Monday, reported the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Felony drug charges are being filed against Keryl Lopez, a California woman that was reportedly driving the stopped car. Lopez could face up to 22 years in prison and up to a $40,000 fine, reported the patrol.

At 1:20 p.m. on Nov. 5, troopers stopped the 2018 Penske truck that was speeding on the Ohio Turnpike. Troopers said the truck had an Indiana registration and had been drifting out of its lane.

There were signs of criminal activity in the truck, troopers said, so a drug-sniffing dog was brought to the scene. The dog responded like there were narcotics in the truck. Troopers then had probable cause to search the truck.

Inside, they found nearly 510 pounds of marijuana.

Lopez, 48, was taken to Strongsville City Jail. She has been charged with possession and trafficking marijuana, both first-degree felonies.
