A New Name for the Mall

Signs come down as Westfield transfers ownership of SouthPark

The big "Westfield" signs came down from the mall entrances this week, signalling the change in ownership.

Strongsville's SouthPark mall was one of seven properties Westfield agreed to sell to Starwoood Capital Group for $1.15 billion in April.

The mall obviously won't be called Westfield SouthPark any more.

The new name hasn't been announced, but it's expected to retain "SouthPark" in some fashion.

The 1.6 million-square-foot mall is arguably one of the most successful in the area. It opened in 1996 as SouthPark Center and was sold by the Richard E. Jacobs Group to Westfield in 2002, when it became Westfield SouthPark.
