If I only knew then what I know now . . .
My oldest son is in fourth grade and each night, Monday through Thursday, he has homework in at least four subjects -- usually math, English, science and social studies.
Each night, I get the pleasure of trying to go through his homework and help him study for any upcoming tests. For any parent who has a child, you will know that this is not an easy task and some days you would rather wrestle alligators than wrestle the answers out of your kids!
During these nights, I think to myself that this is pretty easy! I mean, everyone knows that Abraham Lincoln was the President during the Civil War, right?!

Wrong! I keep forgetting that my son is only in the fourth grade and this is the FIRST time that he is learning these things. Going forward, it will be retaught again and again, but until that time he has to work hard to remember these things.
It's amazing how much smarter I feel going through the fourth grade the second time around. No wonder our kids think we are so smart for knowing such trivial things (until they get into high school and their knowledge surpasses ours). Plus, I get the added bonus of having a younger child so I'll get they joy of going through all of this again in a few years.
I'll be the smartest fourth grader in the class! Wait, if only I knew then what I know now -- THEN I'd be the smartest fourth grader in the class!
