All branches of Cuyahoga County Public Library will be closed Saturday, May 26 through Monday, May 28 in honor of the Memorial Day holiday.  

Year-Round Story Times!
Cuyahoga County Public Library offers story time sessions year-round for children Birth to Grade 2.  Our current story time session is on a short hiatus.  Story Time sessions will begin again for the summer on June 4. No registration required.  Join us as we share stories and fun in a group setting! Please call the Strongsville Branch for specific program details.

Faith, Culture, & Language: The Ethnic Parishes of the Diocese of Cleveland.  Tuesday, May 1 at 7 p.m.
Reverend Thomas W. Tifft, President - Rector of the St. Mary Seminary and Graduate School of Theology, will discuss the founding of ethnic parishes within the immigrant experience of Cleveland. For the immigrants, these parishes played an important role in the Americanization process.

Young at Heart Book Club.  Meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00p.m. 
A book club for adults who love children’s and teen books.  Our next discussion will be on Tuesday, May 1. Please register in person to pick up a copy of the book Hush by Eishes Chayil.  Join us for refreshments and a sprightly discussion of children’s and teen literature.

Free Comic Book Day!  Saturday, May 5.
Celebrate Free Comic Book Day at Strongsville Branch Library. Stop by for your free Avengers comic book, which will be given away to the first 100 customers that mention free comic book day at the Children’s Reference Desk. Offer open while supplies last.

Franchising 101.  Monday, May 7 at 7 p.m. 
Interested in starting a franchise? Join other budding entrepreneurs as the concepts of franchising are shared. Participants will gain insight from an experienced franchiser. 

Music of the Beatles.  Thursday, May 10 at 7 p.m. 
Enjoy the music of locally renowned acoustic guitarist Rick Iacoboni as he plays interpretations of many of the Beatles most popular songs. Hear the fascinating stories behind the Beatles' influences in composing the songs, how the songs were written, and little known facts about how they were recorded. This show-and-tell program will please Beatles fans and music lovers alike! 

Electric Music with Dave Young.  Ages 11 – 18.  Saturday, May 12 from 2 – 3 p.m.
Musician Dave Young, with his keyboard, microphone and computer, engages students in composing and creating music. All participants will be encouraged to sing, rap, or play the synthesizer keyboard, with all performances recorded and edited into a song using his mobile recording studio. The library will receive an audio CD of the final product and post to the website to share. 

Gluten Myths.  Tuesday, May 15 at 7 p.m.
The Gluten Free Diet has caught the attention of the media. New myths about the diet have cropped up and old myths keep circulating. Learn about the gluten free diet, the difference between celiac disease and gluten sensitivity, as well as old gluten myths.

Good Morning, Strongsville – Speaker Series: Using the Library’s Downloadable Collection. Wednesday, May 16 at 10 a.m.
This is a library open house speaker series of programs for Seniors and residents of Strongsville. Meets every other month throughout the year at 10 a.m. Our May speaker will be the Library’s Internet Specialist, Joe Salamon. He will show us how to use a home computer to navigate the Library’s downloadable collection to use e-books and audio books. 

 

Wednesday Evening Book Discussion.  Meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m.  New members welcome! Our next discussion will be on Wednesday, May 16 at 7 p.m. We will discuss the book The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga. Copies will be available to pick-up at the circulation desk.  Join us for great conversation!

Monday Afternoon Book Discussion.  Meets the 4th Monday of each month at 2:30 p.m. 
New members welcome! Our next discussion will be on Monday, May 21 as we are closed on the 4th Monday this month. Copies of the book God Never Blinks by Regina Brett are available at the circulation desk. Join us for great conversation.  

Strongsville Saves Coupon Club. Meets the 4th Monday of each month from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.  Our next meeting is on May 21 as we are closed the 4th Monday this month.
Join us for our coupon swap club and share your passion for saving with other like-minded shoppers!  Bring your scissors, and your stockpile of manufacturer coupons to share.  Share what you don't want and hopefully leave with more coupons that you really need!  This is the place to trade coupons, spend time with other coupon lovers, and share stories of great deals!  See how others organize and share tips.

Memory Screenings.  Wednesday, May 30 from 10 a.m. – noon. 
A representative from Southwest General Health Center will be here to offer free, confidential memory screenings. Qualified health care professionals will administer the face-to-face screenings, which take 5-10 minutes. The screening consists of questions and tasks designed to test memory, language skills, and other intellectual functions. A memory screening is not used to diagnose any particular illness and does not replace consultation with your own physician.  This test is an important first step to finding out the cause of memory problems.
