Join the Friends of Richfield Heritage Preserve in celebrating Kirby Day – and honoring Jim Kirby (a prolific inventor and avid fisherman) -- on Saturday, September 12, 2026, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., at Richfield Heritage Preserve. Use the 3771 Oviatt Road park entrance (off Rt. 303). This year’s theme is “Fishing Friends” -- and the event will include fishing lessons, kids’ activities/crafts, games, ice block sledding, and fascinating STEM-related challenges. Refreshments (including grilled hot dogs/bratwurst, chips and root beer floats) will be offered for a donation. It will be an “All American Evening” with vocalist Debra Rose on Friday, August 7th, at 7:30 PM, as The Strongsville Community band concludes its 37th summer concert season honoring the 250th birthday of these United States. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy an August summer evening with family and friends, before it’s too late. The performance will take place on the front lawn of the Strongsville Middle School, 13200 Pearl Road, Strongsville, Ohio. Ice cream will be served as a special audience treat! 
**Please note, in the event of rain or unsafe weather conditions the concert will take place in the Ehrnfelt Event Center in the Strongsville Recreation Center located at 18100 Royalton Road, Strongsville, Ohio.

The 24th Picket Fence Art Show, sponsored by the Richfield Historical Society and the Richfield-Hinckley Art Group, will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2026, from 1:00-5:00 p.m. in the Johnson Barn located at the front of Richfield Woods Park (4100 Broadview Road – Richfield, Ohio).

This prestigious art event originated with Theo and Ane Marie Kirk -- who hosted a weekly art group at their home and restaurant, then known as the Danish Smorgasbord.The art group organized and held the original outdoor art show, known as “The Picket Fence Art Show” -- where framed artwork hung on a snow fence -- back in the mid-1950s and 1960s.

 While the event’s format and location have changed over the years, admission remains free to the public.Original framed art, ceramics, photography, jewelry, and fine crafts will be on display and offered for purchase at the show.
