Cash Mobs: Trend Started in This Area, But Hasn't Hit Strongsville Yet

They're being organized as a way to promote local businesses

You've probably heard of cash mobs by now, even though there haven't been any in Strongsville yet.

The new craze turns the takes the popularity of flash mobs and turns them into a way to help out a local business.

Unlike flash mobs, where a group goes to a location to entertain, usually with a dance routine, the idea behind cash mobs is to swarm a local business to support it with money on a given day.

The new trend was started by a Cleveland guy, Andrew Samtoy

Other local communities are already embracing the idea. Shoppers in Lakewood were encouraged to spend $20 each at  in Lakewood on March 24.

Volunteers in Stow also organized  this month. It didn't attract as many people as in Lakewood, where more than 200 people flooded the business.

The purpose is to boost and support the local economy

The stores chosen to be mobbed are locally owned and often are mom-and-pop operations.
