Changes Coming To Strongsville Towne Center

The city wants to make the area more pedestrian-friendly, but that will mean some major construction projects.

STRONGSVILLE, OH — The city is set to make improvements to intersections within the Towne Center area and within the Ehrnfelt Recreation and Senior Center. The proposed project would upgrade pedestrian signals, upgrade curb ramps to ADA standards and add traffic detectors capable of bicycle detection to three intersections.

The three intersections that would get upgraded traffic detectors are US 42-SR 82 intersection; US 42-Westwood Drive intersection; and the US 42-Center Middle School intersection. The US 42-SR 82 intersection, a pedestrian refuge island would also be added.

Wayfinding signs, crosswalks and bicycle racks would be added to Freedom Trail, the city said in a press release. To add those upgrades, the city will need about 600 square feet of property that currently belongs to the Ehrnfelt Recreation and Senior Center. No exchange of property has to occur because each piece of property belongs to the city.

Construction is scheduled for 2018 and will last about three months. The facility would not be closed to the public during any portion of the project.

However, because land associated with Ehrnfelt will be used, the Ohio Department of Transportation is looking for public input regarding the effect. Comments should be sent to Mark Alan Carpenter, District Environmental Engineer, 5500 Transportation Blvd., Garfield Heights, OH, 44125, or 216‐584‐2089 or Mark.Carpenter@dot.ohio.gov.
