A car hit two construction workers painting lines on I-71 on Wednesday night. One worker was killed and the other is in the hospital.

BROOK PARK, OH — A car hit two construction workers on I-71 on Wednesday night, killing one and leaving the other in serious condition. Both workers were painting lines on the highway overnight when they were hit.
The accident happened at 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, near Snow Road on I-71 south, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation. When police arrived, one of the workers was already dead and the other was unresponsive. Brook Park paramedics took the unresponsive man to Metro Health for treatment.
The two construction workers hit by the car were not ODOT employees, but were contractors working for TraffTech Inc. John Picuri, ODOT's District 12 director, sent his condolences to the families of the two workers.

"The men and women building our roadways have family, friends and loved ones they want to go home to at the end of every shift," Picuri said in a statement. "While there are many safety precautions in place to keep these workers safe, motorists must do their part by slowing down or moving over when approaching roadside workers. Not only is it the right thing to do, it's the law."
One person was taken into custody after the accident, according to Fox 8. No one involved in the accident has been named by police.

We should be heartbroken but also angry because these are almost 100% preventable if drivers simply slow down, move over, and pay attention. https://t.co/51QaG3loBb
