Countywide 911 Failure Impacted Strongsville
A system update triggered a countywide routing problem for emergency calls, Strongsville officials said.
STRONGSVILLE, OH - Issues with 911 systems affected Cuyahoga County towns over the past week, including Strongsville. The breakdown in the system started at 11:30 p.m. on Monday, but was remedied by Tuesday at noon.
The Southwest Emergency Dispatch Center (SWEDC), which services Strongsville and five nearby towns, was informed that 911 calls were being misrouted throughout the county. Officials also learned they could not receive non-emergency phone calls, or seven-digit emergency phone calls.
Prior to the countywide failure, Cuyahoga County's 911 provider was implementing a system update. That update triggered the failure between the county's 911 vendor, Emergency CallWorks and AT&T, according to Strongsville city officials.

At 12:04 p.m. on Tuesday, the SWEDC was given the "all clear" and told the routing issues had been solved by AT&T and Emergency CallWorks. All emergency calls are now being directed accurately.
"SWEDC would like to reassure the residents and safety forces we serve that the failure that took place was countywide and not related to the integrity of the SWEDC technology systems," officials said in a statement on Tuesday.
