Dad in Custody for Shooting Son

Blazey Trail man to face felonious assault charge

A Blazey Trail man is in county jail facing a felonious assault charge after allegedly shooting his son during an argument early Sunday morning.

Danis Arthur, 57, was arrested about 3 a.m. after police were called to 12290 Blazey Trail by a woman who said someone had been shot.

The son, 23, who lives at the home, was shot in the leg, Detective Lt. John Janowski said. He was at MetroHealth Medical Center early this week.

Janowski said he did not know what started the argument, other than that the son wanted to go out to get cigarettes.

Danis Arthur is claiming he shot his son in self-defense, Janowski said.

A report said police received a 911 call about 2:35 a.m. from a male who said he was dying. Dispatchers were able to call back and talked to the victim's sister, who said she was taking her brother to the hospital.

When officers went to the house, the suspect called dispatch to ask what was going on. Dispatchers told him to turn on the front porch light and put his hands up.

He was taken into custody without incident.
