Death of Geese is a Mystery

Police, wildlife officers looking into why flock died

At least 20 geese have died in the last few days, and no one knows why yet.

On Wednesday, Nov. 9, a Winchester Court called police about two sick geese behind his house. Police found 15 dead geese at the Winchester pond and three more at the Drake/High Point pond.

The next day, more deceased geese were found on Admiralty Drive and Park Lane Drive.

"We don't know what happened yet," Detective Lt. John Janowski said. "We don't know if they were poisoned, and if they were, if it was accidental or intentional."

A wildlife officer from the Ohio Department of Natural resources took the bodies of a couple of geese Thursday to try to determine the cause of death.

Janowski said whatever happened to the waterfowl might not have even happened in Strongsville.

"Geese fly, which makes it harder to determine," he said. "It could have happened anywhere."
