Discount Drug Mart Project Dealt Minor Setback
Developer must get zoning permits before plans can be approved

Plans for Discount Drug Mart to take over the former Vigliucci's Bi-Rite at the corner of Royalton and Prospect roads were delivered a temporary setback until two zoning issues can be settled.
The Strongsville Planning Commission turned down a site plan for the project Jan. 13 because it shows fewer parking spaces than required and the setback from Royalton Road is too narrow.
The developer is expected to seek conditional use permits from the Board of Zoning Appeals.

Architect David Howe said the developer has already purchased the entire property and plans to eventually tear down two outbuildings that house a beauty salon and a beverage store, and use the space for parking. Both will be given an opportunity to move into a space in the shopping center, he said.
Drug Mart plans to expand the front of the building for a drive-through pharmacy and take over the area now occupied by , which is expected to move to another space in the shopping center.

City officials offered no objections to the plans at the Planning Commission meeting. Assistant Building Commissioner Keith Foulkes said the police department has suggested security lighting around the building and speed bumps in the parking lot to protect pedestrians.
Randy French, representing the fire department, asked that the shopping center, which currently has a Royalton Road address, be given a new Prospect Road address because it faces Prospect.
