Email Scam Targeting Strongsville Residents
Police are investigating a string of emails telling residents to buy a security system because of an "uptick" in robberies.
STRONGSVILLE, OH — Strongsville residents are being targeted by email scammers impersonating "Strongsville Council," the police department warned this week. The emails claim there has been an uptick in robberies and residents should consider buying a security system.
The emails are not being sent by Strongsville City Council or anyone affiliated with the city of Strongsville. Police Chief Mark Fender said there has not been an uptick in neighborhood robberies or burglaries.
"This is an apparent scam and is being investigated. If you receive such an e-mail, please delete it without clicking any of the links," Strongsville police said.
The email claims there has been a significant uptick in crimes in "your neighborhood" and implores the resident to buy a security system from a linked-to company. Police shared an example of the scam emails on social media. That email can be seen below.
