The facility has been hopping for the last week or two, a combination of college kids home for break and people seeking to start the new year by getting in better shape.

"There are so many new faces this week," Recreation Director Bryan Bogre said earlier this week. "We have 18 treadmills and today, I got the last one. Usually, you can take your pick."

Charlotte Zaccaro of North Royalton is one of those new faces. She and her friend, along with her friend's daughter, started their new workout regimen Monday.

"I'm here to lose weight and for cardiovascular fitness," she said as she walked around the track.

Of course, in a month or two -- Bogre estimates by March -- many of the newcomers will have suspended their fitness routines.

Zaccaro is planning to walk twice a week, and laughed when asked whether she'll become a New Year's statistic.

"That's why I'm here with my friend," she said. "Hopefully, we'll motivate each other."
